Perfect Arrangement

1972       Barbara Caron

Teaser Storyline for "The Perfect Arrangement"

Gregg Randolph a young writer living in Palm Springs is having marital problems. His wife decides to leave him and the story opens with Gregg driving his wife and son to the airport. She is returning to her parents home.

On the way back Gregg is stopped by a wealthy young woman (Carolyn Normand) whose car has broken down. Unable to fix it he offers to give her a ride back to her home. Carolyn invites him in for a drink and to meet Lennie her husband a top executive for one of the big Hollywood studios.

That evening Gregg discovers that his hostess drinks somewhat heavily. Carolyn is angered because her husband has not returned from New York. She does not believe that it is business that is detaining him. She tearfully confesses that Lennie a homosexual and that she seeks and needs affection.

Carolyn dismisses the maid and after drinks tries to seduce Gregg. He puts her to bed and then leaves

for home. She invites him over the next evening and disrobes and then commences to take his clothes off. The couple go through the complete acts of lovemaking and he stays the night with her.

Gregg finds himself entrapped by Carolyn's infatuation for him and forgets about his writing and goes with her to the seashore. Their affair is a Perfect Arrangement because Gregg's wife has left him and Lennie will not interfere with anything they do. After bathing on a deserted beach they make love and are watched by a Peeping Tom.

Lennie, returning from New York, is openly confronted by Carolyn about the affair. Lennie is completely indifferent and he is nothing more than amused about the whole business. Gregg is notified by letter that his wife has sued for divorce.

A planned weekend party by Lerrnie and some of his friends gives Carolyn and Gregg the opportunity to go to Las Vegas. On the way back they stop by the roadside at night to rest. They are accosted by three thugs and Carolyn is raped and Gregg is shot and left for dead.

The thugs take Carolyn to an old shack, subject her to animal-like sex, and decide to hold her for ransom. Their efforts are thwarted when Lennie refuses to pay and the FBI is brought in. Lennie cooperates only when the FBI insists on it.

The kidnappers hide Carolyn in the trunk of an old car with a bomb in it which they have triggered to go off by remote control if they are stopped from making their getaway. Lennie pays them off and the FBI men surround the area. The kidnappers make a fast departure in another car and are brought to a halt by a blowout before Lennie can get Carolyn from the abandoned car. The FBI men immediately close in and the car is blown to pieces. Carolyn fortunately makes her escape only minutes before by climbing out from behind the rear seat. She is found in a dazed and bewildered condition.

Gregg has died from his wounds in the kidnapping and Carolyn finds herself at the roadside waiting for help after her car has broken down. . . a coincidence. . - perhaps . . . .
