Wild, Wild, Wild Planet R67

1966       Lisa Gostoni

Astounding adventures taking place in the year 2015 and set against some of the most unique and fascinating backdrops and props ever devised for a motion picture will keep the viewers of MGM's "Wild, Wild Planet," described as the screen's first science-fiction horror drama, rooted to the edge of their seats.
It is a world and planetary system of dual governments and there is rivalry between the two great entities, the political hegemony of UD (United Democracies) and the economic power of the giant complex of the Combined Corporations.
Nels Nurmi (Massimo Serato), head of CBM (Chem Bio Med), is the leading authority on miniaturization of organs and species and as the drama opens he is inspecting the progress of experiments being carried out in the laboratory of Gamma 1, most complex of four immense space stations which UD has in permanent orbit 23,000 miles above Earth.
The gruesome experiments are distasteful to UD Commander Michael
Halstead (Tony Russell) and hostility between him and Normi is increased when the latter shows too much interest

in Halstead's girl friend, beautiful Connie Gomez (Lisa Gastoni). At a party aboard Gamma 1, Nurmi induces Connie to accept an offer of a vacation at a secret dream resort.
Now Halstead learns that a remarkable number of people have suddenly disappeared from Earth, among them the UD Commanding General (Enzo Fiermonte). He is summoned to UD headquarters on Earth to investigate the ever-increasing disappearances.
Meanwhile, on the planetoid Delphos in the asteroid belt, strange activities are taking place. Identical-looking men are being placed in crates and stowed aboard waiting spacecraft, with bizarre-looking girls conducting the operations. Similar girls are seen arriving on Earth and soon we see a joining up in pairs of the strange men and women, who proceed to "collect" people from Earth for diabolical experiments.
After a series of breathtaking battles and chases and a daring rescue by spacecraft in mid-air, Hal-stead and his companions, Ken (Charles Justin) and lake (Franco Nero), together with a small band of space troops take off for Delphos. Here they discover both Connie and the General held captive by Nurmi for a hideous purpose.
The story is brought to its exciting conclusion in a climax in which Delphos is destroyed in a violent holocaust with for sheer spectacle and shock has never been equaled in a science-fiction film.
Magnificent photography in Eastmancolor adds to the fascinating scenes of "Wild, Wild Planet," which was directed by Anthony Dawson from au original screenplay by Ivan Reiner. Joseph Fryd and Anthony Margheriti produced.
"Wild, Wild Planet" can he recommended to all moviegoers who enjoy escapist entertainment filled with unremitting action, suspense and originality. And all devotees of science-fiction drama will eat it up!
Beautiful Lisa Gastoni, starring with Tony Russell in MGM's "Wild, Wild Planet," the screen's first science-fiction horror drama, recently won two outstanding motion picture honors.
The actress won the "Nastro D'Argento" Award, which is Italy's highest film award. Secondly, she was given the Golden Globe Award by Italy's Foreign Press Association.
Both honors named her as "Best Italian Actress of the Year, 1966."
