Corpse Grinders

1972       Directed by Ted V Mikels

Teaser Storyline for "The Corpse Grinders"

Sudden, inexplicable attacks by cats on their human owners resulting in death and mutilation, surge through a metropolis. A young hospital intern, Dr. Howard Glass (Sean Kenney) and his nurse assistant Angie Robinson (Monika Kelly) seek the answer when her own pet feline assaults Glass without provocation.

They theorize that an exotic canned cat food could be the cause after learning a fatally bitten woman's pet and Angie's ate the same brand. The food has turned partaking cats into man-eaters! Sleuthing eventually takes Glass and Angie to a dingy factory where the cat food is manufactured by two diabolical partners, Landau (Sanford Mitchell) and his greedy aide Maltby (J. Byron Foster). The basic ingredient consists of cadavers supplied by an accommodating but disreputable cemetery caretaker Caleb (Warren Ball) and his wife Cleo (Ann Noble). It is in the factory that shirring power saws, red stained chopping blocks, ominous cauldrons and a vociferous grinder transpose human flesh and bone into pussy cat puree.

Desperate for fresh supplies of human flesh, Landau and Maltby ply skid row alleyways to fill the demand. For good measure they include the caretaker when Caleb insists on payment for his raw stock. Glass and Angie arrive at the factory on a ruse to get food samples for laboratory analysis, but are outsmarted by a suspicious Landau. A determined Angie nevertheless on her own returns late at night, sneaks in, but is trapped by Maltby, who, in the absence of Landau, is about to abscond with his withheld share of profits.

Angie is strapped on the conveyor leading into the grinder. Maltby's lecherous advances halt when Landau unexpectedly appears. A startled Maltby accidentally hits the controls, is dragged onto the running conveyor ahead of helpless Angie toward the flashing tips of the grinder knives. Meanwhile, Glass has alerted authorities. While he and the police, sirens screaming, converge on the factory, a maddened, fiendish Landau proceeds to aid his partner's demise. A freed Angie attempts to evade Landau's clutches as he himself is ironically caught and headed for the grinder, only to be devoured by a band of ravenous cats. Glass releases Angie.

Monika Kelly, a well endowed (39-32-36) blonde, green-eyed actress-dancer, departed stage work in 1967 to devote her energies to television and films. The legitimate theatre's loss is the movies' gain.
"The Corpse Grinders," a horror experience filmed in bloody color, is her fifth motion picture. Like Sean Kenney, her co-star, it is her first In a leading role as nurse Angie Robinson to Kenney's hospital intern role of Dr. Howard Glass.
Miss Kelly's theatrical training came via instruction from veteran character actor Jeff Corey; professional dancing, modeling and eight years of stage work in Southern California.
She is impatiently craving for that BIG break in the silver screen world. Meanwhile, she pursues her career with all the verve one would expect of an ambitious and beautiful actress, but just in case there should be dull seasons she's amply qualified to make a living as an accountant. Oh yes, she's also a college graduate.
"The Corpse Grinders," filmed in Eastman Color, is produced and directed by Ted V. Mikels.
